Behind the Wheel and Behind the Business: Insights from Domingues Transportation

For both drivers and entrepreneurs in our industry, getting into trucking can be exciting, overwhelming, and challenging all at once. For our founder here at Domingues Transportation, it started with a lifelong fascination with transportation, logistics, and business. Growing up in the Midwest and around the trucking and freight industries, he saw how goods moved efficiently across the country and noticed opportunities to improve the experience for drivers and customers. That led to the launch of our MC, a driver-first trucking company focused on steady routes, predictable pay, modern tech, and professional growth with a well-maintained fleet. It sounds simple enough, right?

The Early Struggles

When Domingues Transportation first launched, “paying your dues” meant securing contracts and building trust with drivers and clients. Progress often felt slow, but persistence was key. Challenges taught our team flexibility and resilience, the trucking business requires constant adaptability. We’ve learned that obstacles often signal growth and opportunities to improve systems, relationships, and operations.

What Drives Us

What keeps us going is knowing we make a real impact on drivers’ lives and careers. Every small win builds toward something bigger. Running a business without a backup plan forces creativity and resilience. Loving the industry and aligning work with your values makes challenges manageable, and finding joy in day-to-day operations is essential.

Where We Are Today

Domingues Transportation is thriving with a growing fleet, strong broker partnerships, and happy drivers. Our driver-first culture goes beyond pay and routes, we focus on safety, support, and career development. Small gestures, like adjusting schedules for personal emergencies, build loyalty, trust, and a sense of belonging. Modern tech solutions like AI-powered logistics, real-time tracking, and automated dispatching help streamline operations while keeping drivers supported and informed.

Lessons Learned

  • Trust your team, but verify: Clear communication and accountability are essential.

  • Income flow is king: Even great deals can strain operations if cash isn’t managed, and while profit is always nice, purpose is always aligned with our work.

  • Listen to drivers: They are the heartbeat of a successful operation, pay them well and advocate for them, always.

  • Don’t fear failure: Mistakes are lessons in disguise, both companies and drivers sometimes learn the hard way, and come out better because of it.

  • Celebrate small wins: Milestones keep the team motivated, we make our drivers and team feel seen and heard.

Early mistakes are inevitable, like scheduling pickups at the wrong warehouse, but accountability, process improvements, and humility turn errors into learning opportunities. Perspective is everything: celebrate wins, view setbacks as lessons, and surround yourself with honest feedback.

Trucking is a rollercoaster. The highs of a big client win or contract are thrilling, but small operational hiccups can feel daunting. Embrace the journey, stay flexible, and prioritize drivers. Their success is your success, and when done right, trucking can be an incredibly rewarding career for both drivers and those leading the business.
